Denise Seibert Townsend
Executive Director

Denise began serving as the Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Evansville in June 2020. Prior to her work with Catholic Charities, Denise worked for The Arc of Evansville for 15 years, most recently as Vice President of Development. In 2017, the Evansville Business Journal included Denise on the magazine’s annual “20 Under 40” list. United Way of Southwestern Indiana also recognized her in 2017 with its Advocate Award. She has served in leadership roles with the Evansville Area Fundraising Council since 2009, and currently serves as its membership chair.

​Denise is a 2004 graduate of Hanover College, and she earned a certificate in fundraising management from Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. She is a member of St. Wendel Parish in St. Wendel, where she has served in the religious education program since 2018.

Kathy Halbig
Receptionist & Adoption Support Specialist

​Kathleen Halbig is a graduate of Mater Dei High School and has served Catholic Charities for over 40 years. She was hired in 1966 as a secretary and left in 1979. She returned as secretary in 1989 and assisted in adoption work. She presently serves as our receptionist and adoption search resource worker and also assists with other programs. Mrs. Halbig is married and has four children and five grandchildren.

Kathryn Reneer
Operations Coordinator

Kathryn served as the Activities Coordinator for the Diocese of Evansville before joining Catholic Charities in November of 2020.  She has more than 15 years of experience in venue and event management as well as travel and tourism. Kathryn is a graduate of Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis with a Bachelor of Science degree in Tourism, Convention, and Event Management.    

Jósie Hughes
Support and Accounting Specialist

Jósie Hughes is the assistant to the director and accounting specialist. She also provides translation and interpretation services for the counseling and legal services departments. She was born in Mexico City and came to the US as an exchange student. After finishing her exchange she returned to Mexico and worked for AT&T. She returned to the US a year later and earned her U.S. citizenship. She obtained an accounting degree and worked for American Finance/Springleaf Financial. Josie has two children and four grandchildren.

Counseling Services

Susan Milligan, MSW, LCSW, CCTP
Clinical Coordinator of Counseling Services

Susan Milligan serves as Clinical Coordinator of Counseling Services for Catholic Charities in Evansville, IN. Prior to this time, she served as a Family Services Counselor also at Catholic Charities, working both in an outpatient capacity and in a school counseling setting. In the past, Susan worked with chronically ill patients and their families in Palliative Care (internship) and also as a Director at the Evansville Christian Life Center.

Susan received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Evansville and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Southern Indiana. In addition to her academic credentials, Susan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Susan has prior experience working in the field of organizational psychology for a bank holding company and consulting in the corporate realm. Susan works with a diverse client base and specializes in trauma therapy (EMDR).

Sr. Sylvia Guerra
Mental Health Counselor

Sister Sylvia joing Catholic Charities in October of 2024. She is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW), as well as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT).  Her prior experience includes serving as a play therapist for St. Vincent Early Learning Center.  In addition, she worked in a variety of other counseling positions for nearly twenty years before moving to Evansville.  She has a Master of Social Work (MSW) and a Bachelor of Social Work from Our Lady of The Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.

Jennifer Utley, MSW, LCSW, CCTP
Mental Health Counselor

Jennifer Utley began working as a Family Services Counselor with Catholic Charities in July 2020. Jennifer is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She knew from a young age she wanted to be of service to others. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Southern Indiana. Upon her graduation, she began working at the Vanderburgh County Division of Family and Children. During this time, she returned to the University of Southern Indiana to pursue her Master’s Degree in Social Work where she had field placements with the Mobile Outreach Clinic and Deaconess Cross Pointe. Upon completion of her degree, she spent time working at Deaconess Cross Pointe and Deaconess Family Medicine Residency where she utilized HeartMath as a tool for stress management.

Jennifer has experience working with individuals, families, and groups. Her clinical interests include Mindfulness-based strategies as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

​Courtney Thompson, MSW, LSW
Mental Health Counselor

Courtney Thompson started to serve individuals with Catholic charities in May 2024. Before that she worked at Ireland Home Based Services as a Family Centered Treatment clinician. In this field of work she was able to serve a wide range of families, individuals, and children. Courtney graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with her Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology in 2017. After an internship in Nepal she decided to go back to school to get her Masters in a line of work where she could help people. During the start of the pandemic Courtney was able to finish her Masters in Social Work in 2020 and become a licensed Social Worker. In Courtney’s free time she loves traveling the world, and spending time with her family.

Immigration Legal Services Specialist

Carlos Mayser has worked for Catholic Charities since July 2016. He is a bilingual BIA-Accredited Representative who offers immigration legal services and tax assistance.

Community Outreach

Karen Robertson
Outreach Program Coordinator

Karen has more than 20 years of experience in relationship management and community outreach and development. Karen joined Catholic Charities in June 2021 as an Outreach Specialist.  Since that time, Karen has become an integral part of our outreach efforts with our emergency assistance services and Neighbor to Neighbor program
Her prior experience includes her work as a Knowledge Base Specialist and as a Case Investigator with the Indiana State Department of Health.  Prior to those positions, she worked for more than six years with the American Red Cross as a Donor Recruitment Account Manager for blood drives.

Madeline "Maddie" Evans
Outreach Specialist

Madeline joined Catholic Charities in August of 2024. Most recently, Maddie worked as a teacher at Holy Rosary Catholic School.  Prior to that position, she worked as a teacher at Most Precious Blood School in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  She has a Master's Degree in the Arts of Teaching, as well as Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education and History, both from Marian University.
